Referees Academy Review 2013-2014

The Cheshire FA Referees Academy for the 2013-2014 season drew to a close at the end of May and has once again proved a success.

Linked with Crewe Alexandra FC, the academy aims to develop and improve, both on and off the field of play, the standard and performance of Match Officials.

This is achieved by delivering a structured programme of training, which is aimed specifically to meet the members’ needs both individually and collectively and which is varied in both content and delivery.

Last season the membership of the academy peaked at 39, all of whom were Levels 5, 6 and 7 and aged between 18-47.

The officials took charge of games at Crewe Alexandra’s academy with the standard consistently hitting a very high level.

This has been shown by the numbers of referees who have been promoted to the level above them.

Nine went from Level 7-6, ten from 6-5 and seven from 5-4 making it a very successful year for academy members.

Nigel Freelove, Cheshire FA Referee Academy Director, has been very impressed with the officials over the course of the year.

"I have personally attended Reaseheath most weekends and been very impressed with the standard of the referees.

"In a very successful season of County FA Referee promotions their progress has been notable."
