The launch festival is aiming to attract between 12 and 16 teams from across Cheshire and its bordering counties and will provide a platform for all teams to showcase their skills as well the opportunity to meet new people.

Walking football is predominately aimed at those aged 50+ and with its slower pace it allows for those who have previously dropped out of the game to get that chance to put their boots back on and enjoy the nation's favourite sport again.

Working alongside partners such as Age UK, local football clubs and leisure trusts, walking football in Cheshire has grown to over 15 sessions with an estimated 250 players participating each week at Cheshire FA's weekly 'Just Play' sessions.

With this growth in participation comes the demand for competition. Therefore the Cheshire Walking Football Steering Group, made up of 7 players from across different regions of Cheshire, was formed to create a new league structure and a develop a set of standardised rules which can be used in all competitions

The new league will commence in October following the launch festival. There will be 3 seasons, each season consisting of 3 monthly festival dates (as seen in the diagram below).

In between each season there will be a month’s break which provides the opportunity for new teams to enter and existing teams to take a break if they do not wish to continue into the next season. Each Festival will be based on the brand new 3G AstroTurf Pitch at Cheshire FA Headquarters at Moss Farm in Northwich (CW8 4BG).
