The Ref's Room

The Ref's Room Kicks Off with Anthony Taylor

Our Referees Department host their first showcase event.

30 September saw Cheshire FA Referees Department host the first of three showcase events for grassroots referees in Cheshire, ‘The Ref’s Room’.

Our Referee Development Officer, Ed Duckworth, warmly welcomed everyone to Altrincham’s J. Davidson Stadium before moving into the first part of the evening. FIFA and Premier League Referee Anthony Taylor delivered an interactive session focussing on the Laws of the Game, decision making and communication.

Following a small comfort break, Cheshire’s finest Quiz Master “Trevor Massey Magnusson” quizzed our special guest Anthony on his Altrincham FC knowledge. An opportunity for Anthony to prove his love and passion for his boyhood club!

The final part of the evening gave referees in the audience an opportunity to ask Anthony questions on his journey, life as an international referee and his advice for referees within the grassroots game.

The Ref's Room

“Following what has been a difficult 18 months for everyone, we were delighted to host a face-to-face event to thank our fantastic referees for everything they do for the game,” said Cheshire FA’s Referee Development Officer, Ed Duckworth.

“It is vital that we recognise the dedication of our referees and provide this level of support and care, it’s the least we can do. We are very proud of our referees in Cheshire, come rain or shine, whatever the weather, they are out every weekend refereeing games of football. Without this level of commitment, the game would be in a very different place.

“We must also thank our guest speaker Anthony, who took time out of his very busy schedule to give something back to the game. Anthony is always on hand to support grassroots referees in Cheshire, a true role model and we thank him for his continued support.”

The Ref's Room

The next ‘The Ref’s Room’ event takes place on Thursday 9 December at Vauxhall Motors FC and we are delighted to announce we will be joined by another Cheshire-based Premier League referee, Mike Dean. Yet another not to be missed event.

Further details including how to book a seat, will be released over the coming weeks.
