Referee Academy

The aims of the County FA Referee Academy are to develop and improve, both on and off the field of play, the standard and performance, as Match Officials, of the members of the Referees' Academy.

This will be achieved by delivering a structured programme of training, which is aimed specifically to meet the members' needs both individually and collectively and which will be varied in both content and delivery.

The Academy operates with approximately 40 members, all of who have been nominated by their District Associations. There will be opportunities for several candidates to join each season. The Academy is a two year programme covering a series of refereeing topics and actively Refereeing and Assistant Refereeing at Crewe Alexandra FC Academy.

 

Referee Academy Status Criteria

The Football Association determines that an Academy must be linked to a Senior Football Club or Centre of Excellence nominated by the FA.

The Cheshire FA Referees' Academy affords this status by being linked to Crewe Alexandra FC Academy.

It is part of the terms and conditions of this agreement that members of the Academy undertake development games at such Senior Clubs on either midweek or weekend dates.

The Cheshire County FA Referee Academy equates to Stage 3; Development & Progression of the FA’s National Referee Development Programme (NRDP).

 

Routes To Membership

Invitations are requested annually from District FAs and anyone interested in becoming a member of the Referee Academy should first of all seek approval from their District FA Referee Secretary or District FA Referee Development Group.

 

Academy Meetings - Season 2016-17

Please find below the schedule for Referee Academy Meetings from July 2016 through to April 2017.

All meetings take place at Cheshire FA Headquarters, Hartford House, Hartford Moss Recreation Centre, Northwich, Cheshire, CW8 4BG unless stated otherwise.

Academy Members are required to arrive for a 7.30pm prompt starting time.

The dress code for all meetings is Black Academy polo shirt, dark trousers and shoes (suitable alternative for female members).

Outdoor clothing for outdoor training sessions with changing thereafter.

You should attend one of the two scheduled fitness tests. This comprises of a 12 minute continuous run around an athletics track. A distance of 2600m is required to satisfy the criteria to referee at our partner professional club - academy. Full details will be distributed ahead of each test.
