Cheshire FA

An Open Letter from Mike Watson

Volunteers are unpaid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.

Hi everyone,

Stop. Start. Stop. Start. Plan. Risk Assess. Covid-19 secure. New fixtures. Social distancing. New guidance. Plan again. Review. Zoom meeting. Hand sanitiser. Teams Meeting. Risk assess, again.

Wow, what a tough year.

The one constant in 2020 has been change. A year like no other. A year where keeping people safe from harm has taken on a whole new level of responsibility.

And through all the adversity, the football community has worked harder than ever to ensure that when the restarts came, we were ready. You, were ready. Your players, coaches, managers, secretaries, CWO’s, treasurers, were ready.

Never in football’s history has so much had to happen behind the scenes, just to enable the game to restart.

Well the unsung heroes are no longer unsung. We are singing about you. I would like to personally thank each and every person who dedicates their time, effort and energy to getting, and keeping, our game ON. You are too numerous to name individually, but your collective endeavour has provided hope, an outlet, safety and sanctuary for footballers old and young across the county.

We at Cheshire County FA are incredibly proud of all the grassroots football volunteers.

In a year where ‘new norms’ are now established practices, and ‘you’re on mute’ has become the soundtrack to the majority of our virtual meetings, grassroots football in Cheshire enters 2021 ready to once again allow the beautiful game to be played by as many people as possible.

So, thank you. A million times thank you.

On behalf of everyone at Cheshire County FA, can I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

Best Wishes,

Mike Watson
