Cheshire FA Cups & Competitions Statement

The latest update on our County Cup Competitions.

All Clubs and Leagues will be aware of the current unprecedented situation that has been brought about by the Coronavirus Pandemic, and the recent decision of The Football Association that Grassroots football is concluded for the 2019/20 season.

There is some flexibility surrounding Cup Competitions, and the Cheshire FA Cup and Youth Committees have now carefully considered the options available to them with regard to our Cup Competitions.

In arriving at the decisions noted below, the Cup and Youth Committees have tried to be fair and realistic.

Nobody knows when football will be able to re-commence, and the decision noted below may have to be reviewed again depending on circumstances.

The following decisions have been made in accordance with Competitions Rule 1(d).

SANCTIONED LEAGUES ADVICE

To reiterate our statement on the 26th of March the following advice still applies:

All Leagues sanctioned by Cheshire FA must be operating under the FA Standard Code of Rules/Standard Code of Rules Youth.

There are provisions within the SCOR for various scenarios in relation to concluding the League season.

As the FA have decided that Grassroots football is concluded for season 2019/20, there are two realistic options that Leagues can consider:

  1. That the League Competitions are brought to an immediate end and all results expunged (i.e. without promotion or relegation occurring)
  2. Final League positions are determined by a Points per Game (PPG) calculation.

No other option is realistic and should not be considered.

With Cheshire FA staff now working remotely (Cheshire FA HQ is currently closed), the team remain available to help with any further queries you may have.

For any further help or guidance with the above, please email Cheshire FA’s Compliance and Regulations Manager Garry Polkey at Garry.Polkey@CheshireFA.com and Garry will then arrange a suitable time to call you to discuss the matter further.

Please contact Garry by email in the first instance.

FAQ's

Both finals are currently at the semi-final stages and would require 3 matches to be organised, this could prove difficult in light of the current situation.

All other County Cup Competitions are at final stage and only require 1 match to be organised and can be done so in line with the re-commencement of football, prior to the start of the 2020/21 season.

All teams involved in the 2019/20 Cup finals will be notified when the finals have been arranged. We will follow Government and FA advice on this.

As both Competitions for this season will not be completed, we felt it was only right to offer free entry into next season’s competitions for those teams that have entered this season’s Senior and Ladies Cup respectively.
