Mentoring

Mentoring & Volunteering

cheshire fa mentoring programme

The new Mentor Programme is aiming to provide all referees who have recently completed the FA Referee Course with support in the best way possible.

We want all new referees to enjoy the best possible start to their referee careers by having a mentor support them during their first 5 games as a referee.

The new referee mentor scheme will split the county in to five areas:

  • North (Altrincham, Stockport & Stalybridge)
  • South (Crewe)
  • East (Macclesfield)
  • West (Chester/Wirral)
  • Central (Mid Cheshire/Runcorn)

Each area will have a Mentor Coordinator who will appoint mentors to games in their area.

Want to get involved?

Apply to become a mentor today! Mentors will play an integral part in new referee development. We expect our mentors to be available at least once a month on either a Saturday or Sunday. For each game, a short mentor report will be completed and sent in to Cheshire FA via the Mentor Coordinators. Mentors will require an in-date, FA accepted CRC. A mentor training session will be held at Cheshire FA in January with the date TBC.

As a Cheshire FA Referee Mentor you will receive a £10 fee for every newly qualified referee that you are allocated.

Apply to become a Mentor Coordinator today! Mentor Coordinators will be responsible for assigning mentors to games and ensuring that each newly qualified referee is mentored on 2 of their first 5 games. We require five mentor coordinators to cover the areas above. Mentor Coordinators will be required to attend the Call Back/ Next Steps event after each FA Referee Course held at Cheshire FA or one of our external venues. This will give the newly qualified referees the opportunity to meet their Mentor Coordinator and start to build a relationship for their early stages as a referee.

As a Mentor Coordinator you’ll receive a Cheshire FA Tracksuit and travel expenses.
